Supposedly he said this to Tony Blair when they were visiting the French Pime Minister. It may or may not be true, but knowing the rapier like sharpness of our President’s intelligence, I tend to believe that he did say it.
Prime minister, not pime minister. Damn typos.
I don’t think he was joking. He was trying to explain why the French economy was in the doldrums. He thought that a socialist nation could not have a word for private enterprise.

14 Responses to Was President Bush correct when he said that the French have no equivalent word for entrepreneur?
Bush is a dumb ass. I wouldn’t believe anything that came out of his mouth.
OMG. “Entrepreneur” is French. Never take that man’s word for anything.
I’d bet he can’t spell it in English.
Yes he was, there is no equivalent word for entrepreneur in french, mostly due to the fact that entrepreneur is a french word.
He never said that I’m afraid – even though its often attributed to him
As far as I can find out, Bush never said this.
Of course, the French have a word for entrepreneur. It is “entrepreneur.”
Only one more year to go…..
Did he really say that? It would make it the dumbest statement since “I’m the decider.”
The word IS french!
I don’t believe that he said that… in any case entrepreneur *is* a French word…
LOL!!!!!!!!
Did he really say that?
They also probably have no word for lingerie, chandellier, rendezvous, and hors d’ouevres…
he was joking.
I can’t believe YOU just said it – entrepreneur is a FRENCH word, that’s why he looked so dumb. Just like the VP correcting the kids spelling to “Potatoe” from “Potato” the Republicans do come up with dumb puppets to govern. Who’s pulling the strings that’s what I want to know.
Look at the word construction – entre – pre – neur has that a German root or is it not obviously a French word?
He probably wanted to say that there’s no synonym (equivalent word) for entrepreneur in French… :oP
(even so, I couldn’t understand what was his point anyway)
Well, you KNOW that he’s never going to admit being wrong.
